Brenda Godoy, a Mount Pleasant native, began her journey at Northeast Texas Community College as a first-generation college student, drawn by its affordability, close-knit support system, and strong mentorship. With guidance from faculty and encouragement from her family, she built a strong academic foundation that led to her transfer as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar to Texas A&M University, where she earned a degree in Biochemistry in 2020.
Her passion for medicine was shaped by personal experiences, including witnessing the effects of limited access to preventive care on her father’s health and seeing her mother’s surgery delayed due to financial barriers. These moments, along with similar challenges in her community, inspired her to pursue a career focused on improving healthcare access. She developed a particular interest in family medicine, valuing the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and emphasize prevention and whole-person care.
Now a fourth-year medical student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Brenda is set to graduate in May 2026 and will begin a Family Medicine residency at UT Tyler. She credits NTCC for helping shape her path through mentorship, leadership opportunities, and unwavering support, and she remains committed to giving back and mentoring others along the way.
