The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation hosted its annual Scholarship Brunch on Friday, Nov. 7th in the Student Union Building. More than 250 donors, scholarship recipients and guests attended. The event is held to honor scholarship recipients and give them a chance to connect with the generous donors who make their awards possible. Click here to view/download event photos!

“It was wonderful to see such a great turnout for this year’s Scholarship Brunch,” said Nita May, NTCC Director of Development. “Our Foundation depends on the generosity of individuals and local businesses to fund more than 150 scholarships annually, and this event gives students a meaningful way to connect with those who make their education possible.”

A brunch buffet, sponsored by Richard and Margaret Perryman, was served by Great Western Dining. The meal was followed by a short program. Dr. Jon McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement, served as emcee. Rick Nelson, President of the NTCC Foundation, gave the invocation. Ladarrius Patterson, a theatre major who received the Elaine Hoppock Theatre Scholarship, spoke on behalf of scholarship recipients. Click to view Patterson’s speech.

McCullough presented the Distinguished Benefactor Award to Dr. Doug and Mrs. Kathy Richey. Dr. Richey is a Professor of Mathematics at NTCC that has been a member of the faculty since the college opened in 1985. He and Kathy have established five scholarships and the Faculty Enhancement Fund, which provides grants for faculty to participate in special projects.

“Dr. and Mrs. Richey truly embody the NTCC spirit. I think it is only fitting that they receive our Distinguished Benefactor award during the college’s 40th anniversary celebration,” McCullough said. “Dr. Richey has touched thousands of lives through his teaching, and the generous scholarships their family founded will continue to make a positive impact for many years to come."

All three of the Richey’s grown children, Jim, Katrina, and Kendra, attended NTCC and now contribute to scholarships of their own.

The Foundation would like to thank the NTCC Advancement team, administrators and other staff who volunteered their time and effort to make the event successful. To learn more about becoming a scholarship donor, visit www.ntcc.edu/foundation or contact May at 903-434-8113 or nmay@ntcc.edu
