Dr. Kevin Rose has been named the sole finalist for president of Northeast Texas Community College. The NTCC Board of Trustees unanimously voted to move forward with his appointment during their regular April meeting, held on May 6.
Per state law, a 21-day notice is required before a sole finalist can be officially appointed.
“Dr. Rose has a thorough understanding of the critical role that NTCC plays in providing high quality and affordable educational opportunities to all residents of Northeast Texas,” Robin Sharp, Chairman of the NTCC Board of Trustees, said. “Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to inspiring student learning and success. The Board of Trustees is confident that Dr. Rose possesses the vision, leadership qualities, and expertise to lead NTCC into the future.”
Dr. Rose will succeed Dr. Ron Clinton, who has served as President of NTCC since 2017. Clinton joined NTCC when it opened in 1985 and will retire this June.
“I am honored and deeply grateful for the trust and confidence the Board of Trustees has placed in me. I am committed to working each and every day to lead NTCC in a way that upholds and enhances the college’s strong reputation for student success,” Rose said. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees as well as our dedicated faculty, staff, and administration as we transform lives—those of our students and their families, our business and industry through workforce development, and our communities as a whole.”
Dr. Rose has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, beginning his career as a computer science instructor before transitioning into administrative leadership over 20 years ago. He currently serves as the Senior Vice President for Student Success at Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC), overseeing instruction, student services, information technology, and outreach programs.
Over the course of his career at NTCC, Dr. Rose has held a variety of leadership roles, including Vice President for Instruction, Associate Vice President for Workforce Development, and Dean of Business Technology and Continuing Education. Additionally, from 2006 to 2009, Dr. Rose served as Associate Dean of Workforce and Continuing Education, then Dean of Workforce Education at Paris Junior College.
Dr. Rose has worked closely with business and industry to develop workforce training programs and has partnered with local school districts to encourage college readiness and participation. He is also actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of Managers for Titus Regional Medical Center, the Mt. Pleasant Housing Authority, and Workforce Solutions Northeast.
Dr. Rose earned a doctorate in higher education leadership from East Texas A&M (formerly A&M-Commerce), a Master of Science in computer science, and a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Stephen F. Austin State University. He also holds associate degrees from NTCC. In addition, he has completed leadership development programs through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the American Association of Community Colleges, and the League for Innovation in the Community College.
Dr. Rose and his wife, Tracie, who serves as the Special Programs Coordinator for Harts Bluff ISD, live in the area. Together they have one daughter, Caroline.
Rose will be the sixth president of NTCC. Previous presidents include Clinton, Dr. Brad Johnson, Dr. Charles Florio, Dr. Mike Bruner and Dr. Wayland DeWitt .
