The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to name Dr. Ron Clinton President Emeritus in recognition of his more than 40 years of service to the college.

Clinton retired in June after serving as NTCC’s fifth president since 2017. His career at the college spanned roles from professor of philosophy, humanities and music to executive vice president for instruction before becoming president.

During his presidency, Clinton guided NTCC through the COVID-19 pandemic, established the college’s own police department, and championed student success and campus safety initiatives. He also earned state and national recognition, including the Phi Theta Kappa Shirley B. Gordon Presidential Award of Distinction and induction into the Phi Theta Kappa Texas President’s Hall of Fame.

Clinton becomes only the second President Emeritus in NTCC history. The first was Dr. Charles Florio, who led the college from 1995 to 2008.

“The Board of Trustees is proud to bestow this honor on Dr. Clinton,” Board Chair Robin Sharp said. “His extraordinary leadership and lifelong commitment to NTCC have left a legacy that will benefit students and our community for years to come.”

The resolution naming him President Emeritus was formally adopted at Tuesday’s board meeting.
