Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s five-star award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), hosted a District III meeting of the Texas Region on Friday, Sept. 12. District III includes the northeastern corner of the state, running from Texarkana down to near Waco. The meeting was also offered virtually to colleges in District I, which covers western Texas.
More than 50 students and advisors attended the fall fellowship meeting. Paris Junior College kicked things off with an icebreaker designed to help attendees get to know one another. NTCC students Jose Fuentes, Araceli Landaverde, Alison Majors, and Hailey Randall presented PTK 101, a session introducing the basics of Phi Theta Kappa. They also highlighted the annual Case Study Challenge, which encourages members to explore current events in depth.
Dr. Craig Nakashian, Dean of the Honors College at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, spoke about transfer opportunities and benefits available to PTK members. Tyler Junior College led participants through officer training, while Kilgore College delivered a lively presentation on motivating members. Trinity Valley Community College’s Terrell campus followed with a session on the Hallmark Awards and PTK programs.
The event concluded with NTCC student Jose Fuentes (pictured) sharing regional updates, including information about the upcoming Texas Leadership Conference at Temple College.
