The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host an exhibit featuring paintings by Gary Perrone Friday, Feb. 7 through Wednesday, Feb. 26. A reception with the artist is will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer gallery. Refreshments will be served.
"Mr. Perrone's work is vibrant and colorful and he has a phenomenal abstract technique. We are thrilled to display his work in our gallery and have him on our campus to discuss his art," Debbie Strong, NTCC
Perrone, of Mount Pleasant, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hartford/Hartford Art School. He has spent his career as a designer and creative director in both New York City and Dallas. Largely abstract in nature, Perrone’s work is inspired by nature and the world around him. He says he looks deep into his mind and soul before starting any artwork.
“As I turned my attention to creating fine art, the question arose, what do thoughts look like and how can they be represented visually? The thought process itself became the thing I wanted to paint. I referred to my paintings as Subroutines, an attempt to capture the endless rhythm of thought, conscious or otherwise, I feel is the “white noise” of the greater consciousness," Perrone said. "Nearly twenty years later, I continue upon a path to abstraction – examining and reassembling my inner thoughts along with the influences of the world I see. The evolution of my creative work is apparent in several new studio pieces that explore color and geometry."
The exhibit is free to the public and is generally open for viewing Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9-12. Please call ahead at 903-434-8181 to ensure that the gallery is open. For more information about the exhibit, please contact Debbie Strong at dstrong@ntcc.edu or 903-434-8172.
