Baseball fans got their money?s worth in game three of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament as San Jacinto College narrowly beat Paris Junior College 5-4 after 13 innings of play.
San Jacinto and Paris traded runs in the first inning, putting the score at 1-1. No runs were scored through the second to the top of the fourth. San Jacinto put another run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, making it 2-1.
The fifth was scoreless and Paris answered in the top of the sixth with two runs. San Jacinto tied it up 3-3 with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth.
The battle continued with no runs in the seventh and San Jacinto took the temporary lead in the bottom of the eighth making it 4-3. Paris rallied in the top of the ninth with a single tying run and managed to hold San Jacinto through the inning.
No runs were scored in the 10th through 12th innings. San Jacinto finally scored a bases-loaded fielder?s choice by Galli Cribbs that scored E Gomez.
Kyle Bacak and Gomez led San Jacinto?s offense with three hits each. Justin Byrd had two hits. Reggie Wilson, Kirby Taylor and Kyle Chaskin each had one hit.
AJ Glasshof picked up the win for San Jacinto with four innings pitched. He gave up four hits, one walk and struck out one. Daniel Stumpf pitched the first nine innings and gave up ten hits, four runs, two walks and struck out four.
The Paris offense was led by Travis Lee with three hits. GR Hinsley, Ryan Fickel and Justin Eckols each had two hits.
Closer, Alex Bruu picked up the loss for Paris with 2.2 innings pitched. He gave up two hits, one run, and three walks. Alex Bisacca, Lance Warren and Tripp Cecil also pitched for Paris.
San Jacinto will face Navarro College on Monday at five p.m. in the winner?s bracket. Paris will face Alvin Community College at 10 a.m. on Monday.
