Expertise has its own rewards. In the case of history essays at Northeast Texas Community College, the reward might be something greater than an ‘A’.  For the seventh straight year, the history professors of NTCC will feature the Bonnie Spencer Awards for the best three research papers in non-honors classes.  The first-place winner will receive $100, the second place, $50, and the third, $25.  There could be an Honorable Mention Prize.

Northeast Texas Community College recently received notification that its Funeral Service program has been granted a seven-year reaccreditation with the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). This makes NTCC one of only four accreditated funeral service education programs in the state of Texas. Students who graduate from the program with an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Funeral Services are eligible to sit for their National Board Exams in both funeral directing and embalming.

The theatre department at Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to present A Night of Shorts…But Not the Bermuda Kind April 21-23 on the stage of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The production will include five short plays written and directed by Dr. Page Petrucka, NTCC Associate Professor of Theatre. 

Saturday afternoon, April 2, if you saw a large number of people in white t-shirts walking or running on campus, you witnessed the awareness portion, a 5K walk/run, of NTCC Psi Beta’s event. Psi Beta is the national honor society for psychology for two-year colleges. Psi Beta President, Hilda Rodriguez, welcomed those assembled by thanking them for making the objective of raising awareness of suicide and sharing strategies to prevent suicide possible.  

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will hold its annual student art show from Friday, April 8th through Tuesday, April 27th in the foyer gallery of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit will feature over 100 student artworks in design, drawing, ceramics, photography, and digital media.  A reception will be held Wednesday, April 13th in the Whatley Center foyer at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come, meet our amazing students, and enjoy the exhibit. 

Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, successfully campaigned for the Texas Region President position at the regional convention earlier this month.  Texas Regional Officers have an amazing opportunity to develop leadership skills as they work with the Regional leadership team to plan and facilitate three regional events, including the Texas Honors Institute held in July, the Texas Leadership Conference held in October, and the Texas Regional Convention held in March. In Texas, chapters run for office and then appoint a chapter member to represent the chapter. This year’s elected member who will serve as Texas Regional President is Jordan Chapin.   

Sophomore Israel Perez has set a new first for NTCC recently, publishing in the Texas Handbook, an online resource, and the most utilized source for Texas history ever created. The articles in the Handbook must go through a professional review process, and are usually crafted by professional historians. In some cases, amateur historians and graduate students also contribute.

The last weekend of spring break,10 Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) students traveled to Emporia, Kansas to attend the 47th Annual Art Therapy Discovery Day at Emporia State University. This event was an opportunity to attend a professional conference, meet and talk to faculty and graduate students, and form lasting friendships with other NTCC students. 

Time is running out to get tickets for the first annual NTCC Rodeo alumni dinner and team fundraiser! The event will be held Saturday, April 9 at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Arena Becky & Buddy McCollum Events Center & Pavilion. 

It will feature live music and dancing, silent auction, live auction, meet and greet with the current team, and catered barbecue dinner.
