The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd. It was followed by a special budget workshop meeting, at which no action was taken. All trustees were present.
President’s Report
Dr. Kevin Rose's report included the following:
- Rose announced that NTCC will no longer be the fiscal agent for the Small Business Development Center of Northeast Texas effective December 31st of this year. A variety of factors, including the recent retirement of the longtime SBDC director, led to this decision. The Small Business Administration is seeking a new fiscal agent to ensure there is no lapse of services in the region.
- The summer Work4College program is currently underway with 77 students participating. They will work, attend classes, and conduct community service throughout both summer terms. The college is grateful for the important work they are completing on campus and at several local school districts.
- EagleGanza, NTCC’s new student experience, kicked off this month. The first event welcomed about 40 students as they enjoyed a fun day of touring the campus, meeting with academic programs, and working with student services to enroll in classes. The second event was held this week and there are two more planned, one on July 8 with a final one on August 18.
- NTCC Rodeo sent two competitors to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming earlier this month. Kelon Andrews and Hayden Sanders both competed in the Team Roping event. While they did not make the final go-round, both represented NTCC well on the national stage.
- Rose reported that NTCC recently received a $1.3 million grant from the Moody Foundation. Focused on workforce preparation, the grant will provide significant resources to enhance student success over the next three years. Further details on the grant will be released soon.
- The NTCC Foundation reported $904,680.46 in contributions for May. Much of this was from local school districts’ annual contribution to the Communities In Schools (CIS) program.
Action Items
The board considered the following items during the regular meeting:
- Approved Consent Agenda
- Approved Special Course Fees - These are variable fees that some programs require to cover a variety of things like special supplies, testing fees, etc.
- Approved Dual Credit Tuition and Fees for 2026-2027- While general tuition and fees were approved at a previous meeting, there was a need to adjust dual credit pricing to remain at $55 per credit hour to comply with a state-wide tuition freeze.
- Granted approval for the former “Mugshots” facility in Daingerfield to become a new instructional site for dual credit culinary arts classes. The college will now seek a approval through its regional accrediting body, with plans to begin delivering instruction in the facility this fall.
- Approved an easement to AEP SWEPCO for equipment maintenance. The agreement will grant AEP permanent right of way through an area on the edge of NTCC property.
The board adjourned into a brief executive session before voting on the following personnel items:
- Approved hiring Crystal Chandler as Director of Human Resources
- Approved hiring Summer Hall as a new Cosmetology Instructor
- Approved releasing the Assistant Softball Coach from their contract
