Alumni Spotlight: Alicia Cantrell

alicia cantrell

Alicia Cantrell is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and a licensed attorney focused on public interest work. She began her academic journey at Northeast Texas Community College as a Rotary scholarship recipient, where she found the support and challenge, she needed to grow. The Honors program in particular helped her build confidence and start thinking seriously about her future goals.

Her interest in law came from noticing how much legal systems affect people’s lives, especially during difficult or uncertain times. Over time, that interest turned into a real commitment to understanding those systems and work toward improving them, especially through policy and public service.

NTCC played an important role in helping her see what she was capable of and gave her a strong foundation to build on. After leaving NTCC, she went on to graduate from Northeastern University School of Law and passed the Uniform Bar Exam on her first try, qualifying to practice in any UBE jurisdiction. She is now admitted to practice in Massachusetts.

Since then, she has worked across all three branches of the federal government, including roles with the U.S. District Court, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Civil Rights Unit of a U.S. Attorney’s Office. She also took part in leadership training with Coro of Northern California.

She is currently completing a judicial clerkship with a family law judge in Nevada, which has brought her back to the area of law that first sparked her interest. She credits Dr. Fulgham as a meaningful mentor whose support and belief in her made a lasting difference in her path.
