Guitarist Andrew Daniel and violinist Mark Miller will perform†Songs and Dances of the Americas†at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.†The program includes†History of the Tango†by Piazzolla and†Mountain Songs†by Robert Beaser. Also on the program are solo guitar works by Leo Brouwer and Brian Head.
Daniel, Professor of Music at Northeast Texas Community College since 2002, has been hailed by the press as a ?gifted musician of the highest order.?† Before his return to Texas in 2001, he toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. After completing his Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California in 1992, he was offered a European tour under the auspices of the Andres Segovia Institute. He settled in Germany in 1992 and founded Duo Grazioso with Axel Jacobsen.† Daniel has appeared as a guest soloist in numerous festivals and with many orchestras, including The Dallas Symphony, The Rome Opera and The Valencia Chamber Orchestra. In addition to his concert stage performances, he has appeared on several live radio programs, including his Eastern European debut aired over Polish radio. Andrew received his Doctorate in Music from the University of North Texas and lives with his wife and eight children in Rockwall, Texas.
Now in his 21st†season as concertmaster of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, violinist Mark Miller also performs with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and other area ensembles. He is co-founder and president of Mount Vernon Music Association, a membership-based nonprofit devoted to bringing outstanding performances of classical, cultural and jazz chamber music to underserved audiences in rural Northeast Texas. He also co-directs the chamber series ?The Color of Sound? at Texas A&M University ? Commerce, where for eleven years he taught and performed as an Artist-in-Residence with his wife, violist Ute Miller, and the ensemble Duo Renard. Following studies at SUNY Purchase, Indiana University - Bloomington and Boston University, he studied with J¸rgen Kussmaul in Germany, where he was assistant concertmaster in the Robert Schumann Kammerorchester of D¸sseldorf and a member of the Orchester der Beethovenhalle Bonn. He maintains a private studio in Dallas.
