MPPD donates police cruiser to NTCC Police Academy

The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) recently donated a 2007 squad car to the Northeast Texas Community College Police Academy. The retired cruiser will be used for training purposes and will give cadets †experience in various real-world simulation scenarios. The Mount Pleasant City Council approved the donation at its January 2012 meeting. NTCC to host drought presentation by Texas State Climatologist

Northeast Texas Community college will host "Drought 2011 and Beyond," a discussion with Texas State Climatologist Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon, on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.


There is no charge for admission and anyone with an interest or concern about drought issues is encouraged to attend. The event †was planned in cooperation with the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District and the Titus County Fresh Water Supply District #1.

ETCF gives $12,000 for Spring 2012 scholarships

Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Vice President for Advancement, Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC), is pictured receiving a $12,000 check from Ms. Dana Durman, Program Officer, East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF).† The funds were made available to the College by the ETCF through a planned gift from the estate of the late Burt and Nancy Marans, formerly of Pittsburg, Texas.† The gift was designated to be used to assist non-traditional students with their tuition and fees in the spring semester at NTCC.† For more information on this or other scholarship opportunities please contact Dr.

Melissa Weinbrenner named 2012 Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Scholar

Northeast Texas Community College history professor and Phi Theta Kappa advisor Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner has been chosen to serve as a Phi Theta Kappa 2012 Faculty Scholar. Only 25 instructors were chosen from among nearly 3,000 chapter advisors to receive this honor. The scholars were selected through a rigorous application process based on knowledge of the 2012-2013 Honors Study Topic, "The Culture of Competition,? and demonstrated excellence in teaching or administration.

NTCC open Saturday for registration

Northeast Texas Community College will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 14 to assist students with registration for the Spring 2012 semester. Students will have the opportunity to meet with academic advisors, access computers to register online, make payments and receive help with financial aid.


The College Store will also be open during this time to allow students to purchase books and other supplies.

Pianist Thomas Pandolfi to perform at Whatley Center



The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will host virtuoso pianist Thomas Pandolfi on January 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert is entitled "Into the Night With Gershwin" and will feature his "Concerto in F" and "Rhapsody in Blue." Pandolfi will also perform his own song medley improvisation and two Etudes based on popular Gershwin songs by Earl Wild.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students. The event is sponsored by Texas Heritage National Bank.

Seven Eagles named Scholar-Athletes

Seven members of the 2010-2011 Northeast Texas Community College softball team were recently named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athletes.
Chastin Smiddy, Shelby Perry, Christina Martin, Katelyn Holcomb, Ashley Eaves, April Breshears and Reagan Smith all qualified for the honor after finishing the 2010-2011 academic school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

?College athletics is about preparing players for the real world and academics are a big part of that,? NTCC head softball coach Jay Terry said.
