The Northeast Texas Community College Honors Program is pleased to announce its Honors Students for the 2017-2018 school year. This includes nine Presidential Scholars and 12 Honors Scholars.

The Carroll Shelby Foundation recently gave $25,000 to support scholarships for students enrolled in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College. Elliott Auto Group in Mount Pleasant recently donated a Ford F-250 truck to the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College. Nancy Blount recently gave $500 to establish the Velma Lee Buck Blount Williams Memorial Scholarship at Northeast Texas Community College. The gift was given by Nancy in memory of her late mother, Velma (pictured), a longtime Pittsburg resident. The scholarship will benefit an NTCC student from Camp or Wood counties. For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at NTCC.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said.

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has selected Chesney Davis to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A mechanical engineering major, Davis is a Priefert Manufacturing engineering intern, NTCC Presidential Honors Scholar and the Texas Regional Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa.† In addition, Davis serves as a ?Supplemental Instruction?

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host its first exhibit of the 2017-2018 school year September 5-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The show, ?Art from the Heart?, will feature graphite artwork by Maurya Beth Holland. A reception with the artist will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.
