NTCC Student Services to extend hours Aug. 20-23

In order to better serve students as the new semester approaches, Northeast Texas Community College Student Services will offer extended business hours Monday, Aug. 20 through Thursday, Aug 23. They will be open an extra hour, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Students will be able to meet with advisors to register for classes, speak with financial aid representatives, make payments and more.

Jazmin Garcia Named 2018 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar

Jazmin Garcia, a student at Northeast Texas Community College, has been named the 2018 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Garcia is a first-generation college student majoring in biomedical science.  She serves as the Vice President of Scholarship for her local Phi Theta Kappa chapter and holds the Chair of Service officer position for her college’s Biochem Club.  After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder in high school, she became interested in medical research, which has inspired her to study immunology.

NTCC receives $60,000 grant from Pioneer Foundation

Fred Markham, Executive Director of the Texas Pioneer Foundation, recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $60,000 to support the NTCC Work Scholarship Program. The gift came in two separate checks, one for $50,000 to be used as a matching gift for scholarships, and the other for $10,000 to be used as program support. Markham (left) is pictured with Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement. This summer marked the fifth year of the program, which allowed 63 students to work on campus to earn their education.

Hannah Dickson and Rhylie Anderson named STAR Scholars

Northeast Texas Community College students Hannah Dickson and Rhylie Anderson received recognition as the top two Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Dallas Baptist University July 27-29. They were two of 12 recipients from throughout the state of Texas.

The scholarship recognizes students with outstanding academic ability, demonstrated leadership, and involvement within the community. Recipients must be returning to a community college.

Alpha Mu Chi attends Texas Regional Honors Institute

Members of Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, attended and participated in the Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Dallas Baptist University July 27-29. A total of 279 members from throughout the Texas region gathered to hear thought-provoking speakers, discuss the ideas heard in small seminar group settings, attend educational forums, develop leadership skills, and network.

As much as we may hate to admit it, summer is almost over. It's time to enroll in classes before it is too late! The fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 27 and there is still time to sign up. If you don't need to register yourself, please encourage a friend or family member who is considering college.

Honors Northeast seeks poems, images for annual contest

Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College, is accepting entries of poems and images for its annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. This is the first year that an image category has been added for original photography and artwork. All submissions should focus on Northeast Texas and enhance or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of this area.

The contest is open to both students and members of the community and there is no cost to enter.

Help A&M-Texarkana Stuff the Bus for Communities In Schools

Dear NTCC Family,

A&M-Texarkana at NTCC is having our annual Stuff the Bus Campaign to help support our kiddos with Communities in Schools!  If you can donate one back to school item that would be very much appreciated.  If you BRING 5 items, you will be entered to win a $50 VISA card!!
