It is critical that the campus community is quickly informed in the event of an emergency at NTCC. It is important that everyone is made aware of what to do and how to make sure they receive emergency alerts. We will be conducting a test of our alert system at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9th.
Please read the information below to make sure you are signed up to receive alerts and informed about what to do in an emergency situation. If you do not receive an alert during the test, please follow the directions below to update your cell phone number or ask a member of the faculty/staff to assist you.
EMERGENCY ALERT FAQs:
What do I do in case of an emergency?
This depends on the type of emergency. Click here to view NTCC's procedures for a variety of possible situations. While NTCC has 24-hour security guards on campus, you should always call 9-11 first in the event of a serious emergency.
How do I sign up to receive emergency alerts?
All students, faculty and staff are automatically entered into NTCC's emergency alert system with the cell phone number they have listed in their account. Alerts will also go to your college e-mail address. It is important that you login to the myEagle portal and click the "Emergency Alert Contact Info" link in the left side menu (see screenshot below) to confirm that we have the correct cell phone number on file. Anytime your number changes, please make sure to login and update it.
How will I receive emergency alerts?
NTCC uses the IRIS Dispatch system to quickly send out emergency messaging to all students, faculty and staff. When the system is deployed, you will receive a text message and text-to-voice phone call. Messages will be identified as NTCC Eagle Alerts and phone calls should show 903-434-8306 on caller ID. We recommend saving this number in your contacts to make sure it is not flagged as a possible spam caller.
When will I receive emergency alerts?
We use the IRIS alert system for system tests and emergencies ONLY. You will not receive marketing or account-related messages through this platform. Some examples of when we might send an alert:
- Test the system (generally at least twice per semester)
- Severe weather alert (such as a tornado or flooding near campus)
- Campus closures due to weather or other factors
- Serious emergencies on campus such as active shooters, fire, general lockdown, etc.
What if I don't come to campus and would like to opt out of emergency alerts?
You can always opt out of alerts by replying STOP to a message. If you would like to start receiving messages again, please e-mail ithelp@ntcc.edu and request to have your contact information added back into the system.
If you have any questions concerning emergency alerts, please contact Jodi Pack, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, at 903-434-8114 or jpack@ntcc.edu. You can also ask a faculty or staff member for help if you need assistance updating your information in the myEagle Portal.
