Mark your calendars for a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Choctaw history and culture from tribal member Ryan Spring and Tribal Archaeologist Dr. Kim Hinson. The event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15th from 12:30-1:30 in Humanities 101. A taste of Tanchi Labona, a traditional Choctaw dish, will be provided as well. ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
My name is Ryan L. Spring and I am a tribal member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. My family is from the Hugo, Oklahoma area. I have worked in the Historic Preservation Department since 2010 and have served as the GIS/GPS Specialist, Director, and now serve as an Archaeological Technician. I work to assist the Choctaw community in protecting and preserving Choctaw sacred and historic sites and assist the community in its efforts to revitalize Choctaw traditional culture and history preservation. In 2017 I received my M.S. in Native American Leadership. I play for the Choctaw Nation’s Tvshka Homma Stickball Team and live in Calera, Oklahoma with my beautiful wife Kathia and my two nieces Amiya and Kinsley.
