The Northeast Texas Community College Agriculture program is kicking off spring in a big way by hosting a community-wide garage sale on Saturday, March 31. The event will be held at the NTCC Ag Complex (across FM 1735 from the main campus) and community members and local businesses are invited to purchase booth space for just $20. †People may also donate items to be sold to support our ag students and receive a donation slip for their items. Attendance is free to the public.

?This year our Ag Club thought a little outside the box on getting those in the community to come out and enjoy them farm and learn about growing their own food,? Rene? McCracken, NTCC Director of Agriculture, said. ?We will be hosting a community-wide garage sale at the Agriculture Complex to bring those to the farm that might otherwise not have an opportunity to see one.? †The students will be serving burgers and hotdogs and all proceeds from garage sale booths and concession will help to fund their trip to state competition at West Texas A&M University.

In addition to community booths, students will be selling items grown on the NTCC Farm, including fresh eggs, spring vegetable plants and fresh pork products. All proceeds from farm sales benefit Ag Programs. †The outdoor pavilion is covered, so the sale can continue rain or shine. Visitors will also have an opportunity to participate in ?Goat Yoga? ? the new craze sweeping the nation.

?Many of us live out in the country where it is difficult to do a stand-alone garage sale. This is a great opportunity to get a head start on your spring cleaning and make a little extra money on items you no longer need,? McCracken said.

She said they also encourage other local businesses, farmers, artists and craftspeople to attend the event.

?We are really hoping this event will attract a lot of local families, so it is a great place for individuals and small businesses to showcase their goods. Our philosophy is the more the merrier,? McCracken said.

To reserve a booth at the event or schedule a time to donate items, please contact McCracken at 903-434-8267 or†rmccracken@ntcc.edu. †All remaining items not sold or wanted days end will be donated to Safe-T thrift shop.
