Filing for Place Three, Place Four and Place Seven on the Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees will begin on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, and continues through 5 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018. Filing applications are available from elections clerk Maria Razo in the NTCC Executive Offices from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays.† The deadline for filing an application will be extended to 5:00 p.m.

The Whatley Center for Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will host a concert by the A Cappella Choir of Wiley College Sunday, January 21 at 2:30 p.m.

Wiley College in Marshall is called the ?Home of the Great Debaters? because of its phenomenal, internationally-known debate team.

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is accepting new†and returning†students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration†and/or testing.†While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at†105†N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

Tuesday night Communities In Schools (CIS) of Northeast Texas hosted Texas State Representative Dr. Gary VanDeaver. He toured the program?s Believes In Dreams Angel Store in Mount Vernon and met with several CIS volunteers and community†members. He took a special interest in how CIS helps area at-risk high school seniors figure out an after-graduation plan through the CAPPED program. NTCC offices will be closed from December 25 to January 5 for winter break. We will resume regular business hours Monday, Jan. 8. Spring classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Students may still apply for admission, register online (if eligible), pay tuition, check financial aid status and more on the myEagle portal during the closure.

Jerald and Mary Lou Mowery recently gave $2,000 to support special projects at Northeast Texas Community College. The gift will help Honors Northeast sponsor the 2018 McGraw-Hill Poster Contest and it will also support next year?s Honors film project. Richard and Margaret Perryman recently gave $2,750 to support the Northeast Texas Community College Work Scholarship Program. Specifically, they sponsored a luncheon that is held at the end of each summer to recognize work scholarship students, supervisors and donors. Al and Sue Havenstrite recently gave $5,000 to support scholarships at Northeast Texas Community College. All funds given to scholarship endowments will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the Title V grant program, doubling the contribution. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently named five students at Northeast Texas Community College as semi-finalists for their highly competitive and elite Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Rachel Jordan, Adriana Rodriquez and Cassidy Watkins were included in the list.

Their applications were among more than 2,800 submitted by students across the nation. Only 20 percent of applicants made it to semifinalist status.
