Northeast Texas Community College Athletes will begin returning to the campus on Thursday, January 13 to begin to prepare for the Spring 2022 seasons.

NTCC Rodeo will kick things off first on January 28th and 29th at the Texas A&M University-Commerce Rodeo held at the Hopkins County Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. The Rodeo team has five spring Rodeos to improve their individual and team positions as they work to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June.

Jessica

Jessica Velazquez, a 2014-2016 member of the NTCC Honors program, Honors Northeast, has recently won her second Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship.  The first, back in 2016, gave her a free ride to Texas A&M at College Station.  This award will enable Velazquez to pursue graduate school at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).  She will also continue to work with Dr. Carl Allen’s Histiocytosis-Lymphoma laboratory in the Pediatrics Hematology-Oncology Department at Baylor College of Medicine.

James Bradley Witt, Gary Gibson Witt, and Beverly Witt Wootten have provided a generous scholarship in the name of their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Bradley Witt.  The fund will cover registrations and costs for six student scholars of NTCC to present their research at meetings of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in six successive years. The NCHC is the oldest and most prestigious association for two- and four-year honors programs, and colleges in the United States.  Formed in 1966, it includes 900 member-institutions in Europe and America, and publishes two refereed journals and a monograph series.

Northeast Texas Community College will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17th in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Offices will reopen and the spring semester will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 18th. 

Ramirez and Risner

Two students from Northeast Texas Community College recently received the Walter B Cooper Scholarship at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Leadership Conference held virtually on October 15-17th.  The Walter B Cooper Scholarship recognizes outstanding students in the state of Texas who are “well-rounded” in the four Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship.

Northeast Texas Community College Athletics is pleased to partner with East Texas Broadcasting and Star 96.9 to bring you the weekly radio show with Eagle Coaches and Athletes. Tune in on Friday mornings at 8:30am on Star 96.9 FM to hear about the Eagle Sports teams from the coaches, athletes and administrators. The radio show will be starting on Friday, February 4th and run through the end of the semester.

Karoline

A freshman from Pittsburg is the winner of the Dr. Alexander Villalobos Award.  This $50 prize goes to a top essay in the non-honors division of NTCC concerning the history of health and medicine. Guerra’s essay was entitled “The Death of Death: The Revolution in Hygiene in the early Nineteenth Century.”

Jerseys

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Baseball team is selling jerseys for $50. They have white, grey and navy versions in limited quantities. This is a great gift for a baseball fan or former Eagle!  First come first serve. Email Andy Morgan at amorgan@ntcc.edu if interested in purchasing one.

The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday, Dec. 14 for its regular monthly meeting. Molly Abele, CPA with the firm Axley & Rode, gave the annual presentation of the college’s independent audit.  

The NTCC Student Services building had a special visitor this week as Santa himself stopped by for a quick visit. Kenzie Messer, Enrollment Management Coordinator, had the honor of sitting down with him for a chat. Kenzie and Santa both agree...sign up for spring classes today! Classes start January 18.
