Eagles Baseball splits with Navarro at home

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles baseball team (10-18, 5-10) closed out the first round of conference play last Sunday at home with a doubleheader against the Navarro College Bulldogs (19-13, 11-4). The Eagles lost game one but pulled off the split after picking up the win in game two. 

 

NTCC fell in game one to Navarro 11-4.  In the first inning, NTCC got their offense started with John Michael Russ and Matt Scheurich both scoring runs to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

 

Navarro College pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning.  The Bulldogs scored five runs in the sixth inning. Carson Rollins led things off on the mound for Navarro. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.

 

Chandler Mauldin was on the hill for NTCC. He allowed four hits and four runs over two innings, striking out two. Garrett Chappell, Mikel Howell, Chance Bolter, and Sawyer Smallwood each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, one and two-thirds innings, one inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.

 

John Russ went two-for-two at the plate to lead NTCC in hits.

 

Game two saw the Eagles take an early lead and never look back. NTCC fired up the offense in the first inning. Jordan Martinez drew a walk, scoring one run.

Tyler Navarro was on the mound for NTCC. He surrendered one run on four hits over six innings, striking out five. Angelo Gennari was on the hill for Navarro College. He lasted five innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out nine. 

 

John Pron, John Russ, Isaac Rivera, Jonathon Carrillo, and Cody Cleveland each collected one hit to lead the NTCC offensive attack.
