Annual Bonnie Spencer Awards presented

Faculty mentoring and the promotion of student research at Northeast Texas Community College have dovetailed in recent years with the determination of an alumna to reward top student essays in American history.† Bonnie Spencer, an ICU Nurse at the Titus Regional Medical Center, initiated NTCC?s first History Club in 2002.† She also helped transition its descendant, the NTCC Webb Society, into its film series in 2012.

Board swears in members for new terms, Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award presented

The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees swore in three members for new terms at the regular May meeting Tuesday night. Governor Bill Ratliff swore in fellow members Sondra Fowler, Sid Greer and Dr. Dan McCauley, who all kept their places on the board after being unopposed for a May election. Fowler, who serves in Place Three on the board, was elected to finish out the last two unexpired years of her term, which she was appointed to after John Bryan retired from the board last year. Greer (Place Four) and McCauley (Place Seven) will serve full six-year terms.

Adult Education accepting new GED, ESL students

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is accepting new†students for its GED (General Equivalency Diploma) and ESL/Citizenship Fast Track classes.†Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration. †While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at†105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

Bradley Syd Norwood automotive scholarship established at NTCC

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from the Gloria Norwood estate. The funds established the Bradley Syd Norwood Memorial Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to students in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program. Gloria, who was a resident of Naples, planned the gift in her will. Her late son, Bradley, attended the NTCC Automotive Program in the early 1990s. Six local graduates inducted into National Adult Education Honor Society

The Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Program honored six deserving†General Equivalency Diploma (GED) students during its recent GED Graduation ceremony by inducting them into the National Adult Education Honor Society†(NAEHS).†Those inducted were: (from left): Emily Postlethwait of Winnsboro, Christina Netro of Pittsburg, Roxanna Garcia of Mount Pleasant,†Jacqueline Fernandez of Mount Pleasant,†Courtney Hopson of Mount Vernon and Alicyson Mattaboni of Winnsboro.

Jose Castro awarded J. Travis Jackson GED Scholarship

Jose A. Gil Castro of Mount Pleasant was recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2018 GED graduation ceremony hosted by the Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.
