The “charm of fame is so great” noted Blaise Pascal, “that we like every article to which it is attached.” Former President George W. Bush (2001-2008) recently published an artistic and biographical compendium that the friends of Carlos Mendez will no doubt treasure. The former Texas Governor and 43rd President painted portraits of forty-three living immigrant contributors to American life.  The group includes Henry Kissinger, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dirk Nowitski, and the former alumnus of Honors Northeast, Carlos Mendez.

NTCC is pleased to announce that Dr. Jonathan McCullough (Executive Vice President For Advancement), and his development team, has been nominated for this week’s Summer Shout Out. Dr. McCullough and his staff raise funds for the NTCC Foundation and award scholarships and other assistance to students in need (along with many other duties).

Did you know that NTCC now has a virtual tour? Prospective students and community members can get a 360look at the campus without leaving home. In addition to a guided tour, there are separate virtual experiences for the Carroll Shelby Automotive Program, Community Room (UHS), Cosmetology Program, Elizabeth Hoggatt Whatley Ag Center, Fitness Center, Funeral Services Program, Health Science Simulation Lab and Whatley Center. We plan to add more virtual tours in the near future.

The NTCC Agriculture Department is hosting another Farmer's Market today (Friday, July 9) at the Ag Complex from 9 a.m. until sellout. In addition to lots of great farm items and vendors, the Ag Department is selling chicken tamales: $1 ea, 6 for $5 or Dozen for $10. Food will be ready at noon. Farmer's Markets are also planned for July 16, 23 and 30.

There is still time to register for Summer classes at NTCC! A new set of 5-week classes begins on Monday, July 12. A variety of courses are offered both online and in person. Hurry, time is running out! This is a great chance to get one step closer to your degree or certificate.

Northeast Texas Community College will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, July 6. We hope everyone has a great time celebrating the holiday safely with family and friends.

EagleGanza tour group

Northeast Texas Community College hosted its first EagleGanza freshman experience on Tuesday, June 29. Around 50 students participated in the action-packed event that gives incoming freshmen a chance to explore the NTCC campus, learn about programs and clubs, meet with advisors and even register for classes.

At the Greer Farm in Daingerfield in the spring of 2018, Brenda Godoy, first learned that she was one of some 60 students nation-wide to win a $120,000 Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship.  A Texas A&M degree in biochemistry, and two medical goodwill trips to Guatemala and Thailand later, and Godoy now works with the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) as the “Community Health Worker” of Titus County.

For the eighth consecutive year, NTCC is hosting the summer Work4College program. Over 10-weeks, students in the program have the opportunity to work in 21 different areas across 3 different campuses to earn income for their future NTCC education.
