Each spring the National Collegiate Honors Council releases the names of students who have been accepted to present scholarly works at the upcoming fall conference. This year, the freshmen honors group at NTCC obtained an all-time college record for the number of acceptances. Katelyn Cox, Maritza Quinones, Jaidyn Thompson, Gem Elmore, and Samuel Griffin all were elected to present posters, while Jalyn English will join Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox in presenting a panel on NTCC’s Caldwell-Award-winning films.
Jordan Whelchel, former NTCC Presidential Scholar, has just accepted an offer to attend Rice University in the fall of 2020. He will receive a full-ride, full need scholarship, and pursue a degree in electrical engineering.

Northeast Texas Community College associate professor Mandy Smith was recently named the 2019 Charles “Chuck” Choate Memorial Adviser of the Year by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA). This is the top state award for college and university journalism advisers and is designated for those who “go the extra mile in teaching and advising.”
Expertise has its own rewards, and in the case of history essays at Northeast Texas Community College, the reward might be something greater than an ‘A’. For the fifth year in a row, history at NTCC will feature the Bonnie Spencer Awards for the best three research papers in non-honors classes. This year, the awards will be doubled to $200 for first place, $100 for second place, and to $25 for third place.
East Texas Giving Day (ETGD) is up and running and this is our 6th year to participate in this regional online giving/fundraising event. Why is this so important to NTCC and why would YOU want to thoughtfully consider giving? Your gift to NTCC will be matched 2 to 1. That’s right, NTCC will receive an extra $2 from matching grants for every $1 you give, so WE ALL have the power to make a really big difference.

The 12th annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest is set for Friday, May 1, starting at 9:00 a.m. This contest has recognized and rewarded creative student scholarship in Northeast Texas since 2009. Area high school seniors, college and university students are welcome to compete. Prizes range from $100 for fourth place to $400 for first place.
While the majority of the country was sheltering in place this week, volunteers from the Northeast Texas Community College Social Work Club were conducting curb-side delivery Thursday at the Eagle Pantry.
Students interested in participating in the 2020 NTCC Work4College Program should plan to turn in their completed applications no later than April 15. It is available online at www.work4college.com.
