Students and faculty of Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College, recently took a cultural trip to the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. This is the tenth year that Honors Northeast has taken a fall trip thanks to a gift from Drs. Jim and Paula Archer and a matching grant from the†I.B.M.

For the 10th straight year, Doctors Jim and Paula Archer hosted the annual Fall Roundup for Honors Northeast. Honors students, professors, and administrators of Northeast Texas Community College†gathered at the Archer?s Lone Star Cattle Company Ranch September 10 for the event. Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director (pictured right) presented the couple with a plaque commemorating some of the scenes of their interactions with students.

Dr. Jim Archer is a Professor Emeritus at NTCC, having served as chemistry professor for 25 years.

The Northeast Texas Community College Honors Program is pleased to announce its Honors Students for the 2016-2017 school year. This includes†10†Presidential Scholars and†15†Honors Scholars.

Honors Northeast†was founded in the spring of 2007. Geared to attract top high school graduates and college students, the program has prospered thanks to a network of loyal supporters both in and out of the college. Each year, NTCC honors students have attended and presented research at the Great Plains Honors Council and the National Collegiate Honors Council.

The Ninth Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading†will be held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College on Friday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. The reading will feature two speakers with broad historical interests in our region.

The scholars of Honors Northeast completed filming their fifth feature-length movie last week in Nacogdoches.†The subject of this year?s film was the end of the Texas Cherokee and the transformation of Sam Houston. The project was researched, written, directed, acted and produced by students in the Northeast Texas Community College honors program with the support of faculty, staff and community members.
