Over the past few months, Northeast Texas Community College?s Carroll Shelby Automotive Program partnered with Dallas attorney Rob Miller to transform a 1965 Mustang to a race car that is set to be driven in the 2015 La Carrera Panamericana Race in Mexico starting on Oct. 16.

Drive for Kids fundraiser to benefit CIS

A fundraiser benefitting Communities In Schools (CIS) Northeast Texas will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at Pittsburg Primary School. The Drive For the Kids event, presented by Chrysler, will donate $10 to CIS for each person who test drives a vehicle between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license. Dow Chrysler Jeep Dodge will be providing the test drive vehicles and will be on hand to answer questions. To learn more, contact Communities In Schools at 903-434-8212.

NTCC offers free GED classes

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is looking for dedicated students who would like to advance their earning potential by completing the General Education Development (GED) program. NTCC offers free classes in a variety of locations to help students develop the skills necessary to pass the GED exam and receive a high school equivalency diploma.

Scott Wilhite named Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar

Scott Wilhite, a student at Northeast Texas Community College, has been selected by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2015 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A father of three children, Wilhite enrolled in college after being laid off from his job. A political science major, he earned a 3.92 grade point average at Northeast Texas Community College and became a member of Phi Theta Kappa. In addition to his work within the chapter, Wilhite took on a role coordinating a work scholarship program for NTCC†this summer.

NTCC art hosts pottery exhibit

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host a new gallery exhibit October 6-30 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit, entitled Refined by Fire, will feature pottery by Karen Lowrey. Lowrey is†a potter and sculptor from Longview who creates one-of-a-kind hand made vessels.

TRMC Auxiliary gives $4,500 for NTCC scholarships

The Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Auxiliary recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $4,500, which will provide six $750 scholarships to benefit students at NTCC majoring in an allied health field.
