Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, hosted a District III meeting on the beautiful NTCC campus September 21. More than 40 representatives of Phi Theta Kappa chapters at Kilgore College, Texarkana College, Tyler Junior College, Paris College, Navarro College, and Trinity Valley Community College met for a day of leadership and scholarship training, and fellowship.

Dr. Kevin Rose, Vice President of Academic Instruction welcomed the visitors, which included both students and chapter advisors from surrounding local colleges, with an inspirational speech about the positive returns on investing time and energy in meaningful ways. Jacob Lambie, the District III Vice-President for the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa and a member of the Alpha Mu Chi chapter, coordinated and planned the day’s event. The Alpha Mu Chi chapter encouraged everyone to get to know one another better with an interactive ice breaker activity involving balloons and laughter-inducing actions.

Various colleges gave presentations on topics ranging from volunteerism to scholarships and how to develop leadership and soft-skills employers seek. Dance lessons after lunch showed everyone how to swing, foxtrot, and waltz to even the most modern music. Alpha Mu Chi and District III is ready to shine on the dance floor at the dance coming up at the Texas Leadership Conference Oct 11-13.

Alpha Mu Chi is NTCC’s award-winning, five-star chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Phi Theta Kappa, founded in 1918, is the world’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious honor society for two-year colleges with chapters in the United States and ten other nations. Members are more than twice as likely to complete their college degrees as non-members with the same GPA. Phi Theta Kappa emphasizes scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship and view members as PTK family, supporting one another in achieving their goals.  For more about the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on the NTCC campus, contact Dr. Melissa Fulgham at mfulgham@ntcc.edu .  For more about Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, check out www.ptk.org.
