Dr. Paula Wilhite attends A&M-Commerce Mathematics Advisory Council meeting

The Texas A&M University – Commerce Mathematics Advisory Council recently met at the Alumni Center on the university campus for their scheduled fall meeting.  This is the second year for the council of eleven invited members from community colleges and public schools to serve the TAMU – Commerce Department of Mathematics in this capacity.  Council members join with the mathematics faculty and administration to discuss suggestions and ideas for recruitment, undergraduate research, outreach activities, and other areas of service by the department.

Shown in the photo are Dr. Joshua Patterson and Ana Martinez with Dr. Paula Wilhite.  Patterson and Martinez are both employed as full-time mathematics faculty members at TAMU – Commerce for 2019-2020.  Wilhite is professor of mathematics and division chair for mathematics, physics, and engineering at NTCC.  

Last April, Dr. Patterson earned a Ph.D. in mathematics with an emphasis in Stochastic Queue Theory from the University of Texas at Arlington where he was a GAANN Fellow.  He graduated from NTCC in 2006 with presidential honors and then earned both a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from TAMU – Commerce.  He previously taught as an adjunct instructor for NTCC, Jarvis Christian College, and TAMU – Commerce.    

Ms. Martinez graduated last May from TAMU – Commerce with a M.S. in mathematics and received the Aslan Outstanding Graduate Student in Graduate Mathematics Award. In 2017, she graduated with a B.S. in mathematics and received the Aslan Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Undergraduate Mathematics Award from the university.  She previously attended NTCC and earned an associate degree in 2015 graduating as a Presidential Scholar.
