Theatre Northeast at Northeast Texas Community College will hold auditions for its spring production, Twelfth Night or What You Will by William Shakespeare, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.
The production features a large cast, and auditions are open to community members, NTCC students and NTCC employees. Those auditioning should prepare one memorized Shakespearean sonnet. Following the sonnet, participants will be asked to read a short scene from Twelfth Night with another actor.
Performers are encouraged to focus on clarity, character choices and understanding the text. British accents are not required.
“This is a safe, welcoming space to explore Shakespeare and take creative risks,” said Dr. Page Petrucka, Theatre Northeast director. “Most of all, we want people to have fun with the language and enjoy the process.”
Performance dates are April 16–18 and April 20. Those cast should expect to rehearse at least three days per week and attend all performances. A detailed character list will be shared next week.
Theatre Northeast is also seeking technical volunteers, including assistance with lighting, sound and other backstage roles. Those interested in auditioning or volunteering for technical support are encouraged to reach out for more information.
“This is a joyful, fast-paced show, and there truly is a place for everyone,” Petrucka said.
