Northeast Texas Community College officially celebrated the opening of its new Athletic Complex Pavilion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, Aug. 31.
Students, employees and community members gathered for the celebration, which also served as the kickoff for NTCC’s Weeks of Welcome activities. Guests enjoyed free barbecue, dirty sodas, games and other activities while getting their first look at the new pavilion.
The pavilion provides a new outdoor gathering and recreation space at the NTCC athletic complex, giving students a place to connect, relax and enjoy campus activities. The project was made possible through a generous gift from the estate of longtime NTCC supporters David and Pat Sistrunk.
The pavilion was built by Stansell Construction, with the recreational court constructed by Symmetry Sports Construction.
NTCC Board of Trustees members Robin Sharp, Chad Elledge and Kerry Wootten joined college leaders, students and community members for the ribbon cutting. Representatives from the Mount Pleasant-Titus County Chamber of Commerce and Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce also participated in the celebration.
Dr. Jon McCullough, executive vice president for advancement, served as emcee for the ceremony, and NTCC President Dr. Kevin Rose welcomed those in attendance and shared remarks about the new facility and what it will mean for the college.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone from our community who came out to celebrate this new addition to our campus,” McCullough said. “It was wonderful to see so many students, employees, friends and community partners gathered together enjoying the space. Their support means a great deal to NTCC, and it made the ribbon cutting a truly special occasion.”
The NTCC Student Services team, JaQuacy Minter and the Student Government Association, and Mason May helped organize the event and provided lunch for attendees. Chick-fil-A also joined the festivities, with the Chick-fil-A Cow making an appearance and posing for photos with students and guests.
The strong turnout reflected the excitement surrounding both the new facility and the beginning of a new academic year at NTCC.
The Athletic Complex Pavilion is now open for use and will provide NTCC students with another space for recreation, campus events and community-building activities.
