The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22. Trustees received updates on college programs, campus improvements and fall enrollment, and approved two personnel items.
The meeting began with a Program Spotlight featuring NTCC's Funeral Service program. Rebecca Gardner, director of Funeral Services, presented an overview of the program, which prepares students for careers in funeral directing and embalming. Funeral Services is one of NTCC's largest and fastest-growing programs. As it is primarily online, it attracts students from across the United States.
President's report
In his president's report, Dr. Kevin Rose highlighted several recent developments and upcoming events:
- NTCC faculty member Dr. Chris McAllister recently coauthored an updated guide to the amphibians and reptiles of Arkansas.
- NTCC is now a site for a KLTV Tower Cam, which provides aerial views of campus. The college is also an official weather station.
- The college has purchased a new bus through funding from a $1.3 million Moody Foundation grant. While the bus will primarily support the Work4College program, it will also benefit other areas of campus.
- Dr. Wynn Rosser, commissioner of higher education for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, is scheduled to visit NTCC Thursday, Sept. 24.
- NTCC launched its redesigned website this week, featuring improved accessibility and a modern look and feel. Rose recognized Webmaster Shane Pitts and the website redesign committee for their work on the project. The college's athletics website is scheduled to transition to the new design Friday.
Items of information
Kim Irvin, Vice President for Student Services, presented the fall enrollment report. She stated that NTCC enrolled a record-breaking 3,762 students for Fall 2026. This is a 6.7% increase over fall 2025 (235 students). The college also saw an increase in credit hours at 32,748 - a 6.2% increase over fall 2025.
Trustees also received information on recent personnel actions and the college's required report on freedom from discrimination, harassment and retaliation under the Texas Education Code.
Action items
The board approved all items as presented, including:
- The consent agenda, which included minutes from the previous meeting and the monthly financial report.
- Employment of Bernie Binns as Director of Agriculture
- Employment of Ronda Henry as licensed professional counselor for the Counseling and Wellness Center.
The meeting was adjourned following consideration of the scheduled agenda items.
