NTCC student Jose Fuentes took the stage at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute at Texas Lutheran University. The conference itself was held July 11 - 13, but Jose, as the District III Vice President, arrived the day before with the leadership team to help set up for the conference.
Jose and the other members of the Texas Regional Officer team always sat at the front of the auditorium and helped run each session, introducing speakers and giving announcements. The Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa has a six-member Regional Officer team, comprising a regional president and five district vice presidents. District III is located in the northeastern corner of the state and encompasses 17 colleges.
Jose will be traveling to Temple in August to plan the upcoming Texas Leadership Conference, which will be held in October on the campus of Temple College. The multi-day planning session will include becoming familiar with the campus layout, selecting speakers for the general sessions, devising fun fellowship opportunities, and other related tasks. In the spring, Jose will help plan the Texas Regional Convention. In the fall and spring semesters, Jose will speak at various college induction ceremonies and preside over district meetings.
While a student at Northeast Texas Community College, Isaac Burris served as the District III Vice-President from 2015 to 2016. Isaac currently holds a position with the Texas Regional Alumni Association and has been attending nearly every Phi Theta Kappa regional event for the past decade. A recipient of numerous awards while serving as a member and regional officer, he has also been inducted into the Alumni Hall of Honor and recognized as an outstanding alumni officer.
Northeast Texas Community College’s Alpha Mu Chi chapter has had members hold the Texas Regional President and Texas Regional Vice President positions, as well as serve as an International Officer.
