
The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Softball team continued its hot streak this week with sweep at North Central Texas College in Gainesville. Below are summaries of the games:
Game 1 - vs. NCTC - Eagles win 3-2
NTCC Softball bested NCTC Lions 3-2 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game. NTCC Softball were down 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning when Sawyer Strange doubled, scoring two runs.
The pitching was strong on both sides. NTCC Softball pitchers struck out five, while NCTC Lions sat down four.
NCTC Lions got on the board in the third inning after an error scored one run.
Morgan Hill singled to center field, which helped NTCC Softball tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.
A double by Abby Baglin gave NCTC Lions the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth.
Kiersten Finncannon began the game for NTCC Softball. The right-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking one. #8 stepped in the circle first for NCTC Lions. The pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one.
Strange led NTCC Softball with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Megan Allen led NTCC Softball with two hits in four at bats.
Game 2 vs. NCTC - Eagles win 7-5
NTCC Softball bested NCTC Lions 7-5 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at five in the top of the sixth when Morgan Hill scored after tagging up.
NTCC Softball got on the board in the top of the first inning after Peyton Holland doubled to left field, Conlee Zachry doubled to left field, and Hope Grant singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Nayani Brown doubled to center field, which helped NCTC Lions tie the game at three in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third, NCTC Lions broke up the tie when Abriana Coy doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Riley Lee followed to extend the lead to 5-3.
NTCC Softball made the score 7-5 in the top of the sixth after Emma Peeples singled, scoring one run, and Hill scored after tagging up.
Casey Jones pitched four innings in relief for NTCC Softball. The reliever gave up two hits and zero runs while, striking out none and walking one. Zachry stepped in the circle first for NTCC Softball. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking three.
Grant, Sarai Cruz-Camacho, and Peeples each collected two hits for NTCC Softball. Cruz-Camacho went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Cruz-Camacho stole two bases. NTCC Softball stole four bases in the game.
Brown led NCTC Lions with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Faith R went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead NCTC Lions in hits. Sydney Crouthers led NCTC Lions with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game. NCTC Lions turned one double play in the game.
Eagles travel to eastern Oklahoma state Saturday for their DH to close out the week.
