Two NTCC Biology 2289 students, Gracie Gray and Stephanie Hernandez, and Dr. Chris T. McAllister, Natural Science Division, traveled to the Ouachita Mountains Biological Station (OMBS), Big Fork, Arkansas, May 25-30, 2025, to continue their research on fish parasites from the Ouachita River watershed.
What they believe to be a new species of myxosporean was discovered on the gills of a topminnow, the first of its kind from this rarely examined host. These students will continue Biol. 2289 this summer semester and travel to conduct further parasitological research at Prescott, Arkansas, and Clinton, Arkansas. They will have the opportunity to meet two renown parasitologists at those outings.
