Four members of Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC’s award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa attended the Texas Leadership Conference held in Tyler, Texas, October 11 - 13, 2024. Alison Majors, Chapter President, Vanessajane Bayna, Chapter Vice-President, Skylar Hodson, Vice-President of Fellowship, and Sarah Dierflinger, Vice-Presidennt of Leadership, heard guest speakers, participated in breakout sessions, fellowshipped, helped present a workshop, and had what they described as an “awesome time.” Fellowship opportunities at the Texas Leadeship Conference included making stuffed plushies, a costume contest, and other activities, allowing attendees to meet old friends and make new friends from throughout the Texas Region.
NTCC’s chapter jointly presented a workshop on scholarships with Trinity Valley Community College’s chapter. Alison described the experience as “exciting” as the workshop proved to be very popular. Chairs were brought in from other workshop meeting rooms as so many conference attendees were interested in hearing what the presenters had to say. All four of NTCC’s students attending the conference had recently won scholarships, being named Texas Star Scholars and/or national Leaders of Promise, which may have been one reason the workshop proved so successful. NTCC continued its long history of winning scholarships by having three more students win Walter B. Cooper Scholarships, given out at the end of the last General Session: Monse Rivero-Sanchez, Lochlan Scott, and Noah Pettey.
