The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular January meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 30th. In the President’s Report, Dr. Ron Clinton stated that preliminary enrollment numbers show a 2.8% increase in headcount and a 4.4% increase in semester hours for the spring 2024 semester.
“While our new funding model doesn’t primarily focus on enrollment growth, it is a good indication that students are returning and numbers are nearing what they were before the pandemic,” Clinton said.
Clinton also congratulated Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement, and Trustee Stephanie Thurman for being honored at the Mount Pleasant-Titus County Chamber banquet. McCullough was named Citizen of the Year and Thurman’s Pro-Med Pharmacy was honored as Business of the Year.
In the Recent Donations to the College Foundation report, McCullough said the college received $239,695 in gifts for the month of December. This included a $150,000 donation from the estate of Sandra Crane Issing. McCullough pointed out that Issing’s gift is being matched by a foundation for a total impact of $300,000.
After approving the consent agenda, the board approved releasing two employees from contracts and hired Litzy Yanez as the new Financial Aid/Veteran’s Specialist. There was a brief discussion about the required annual board evaluation process. The board agreed that the existing procedure is effective and will participate in an electronic self-evaluation over the next month.
The final action item was the approval of an Order Calling a General Election. Place Four and Place Seven on the NTCC Board will be on the ballot for district voters this May. With no other business being raised, the meeting was adjourned.
