Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo made the long trip to Uvalde, Texas for the second NIRA Southern Region Rodeo of the season hosted by Southwest Texas Junior College.

The Eagles had a pair of ladies do well in the Breakaway Roping. Chloe Bahhur (Fairfield, VA) brought home a fourth-place finish and Makenzie Mayes (Winnsboro, TX) followed her in fifth-place in the event. Mayes brought home team points with her finish as well.

Mayes made the short go round in the Barrels, but a hit barrel added five seconds to her time of 16.37 that would have brought home second place in the finals.

For the men, Gage Schweer, (Elko, NV) brought home a third-place finish in the Saddle Bronc event. Brennen Wilson (Gilmer, TX) was hot in two events to bring home points for NTCC. Wilson was sixth in the Tie Down roping and he and teammate Hayden Sanders (Ovalo, TX) finished in fourth place in Team Roping. This allowed Wilson to bring in fourth place overall for the Men’s All-Around standings at the Rodeo.

After two NIRA Southern Region Rodeo’s, the Eagles are putting themselves in good position to make a run at the College National Finals Rodeo in June. In the Ladies Breakaway roping, Bahhur is sitting in seventh place and teammate Mayes is just behind her tied for eighth place in the region.

Mayes is doing well in the Barrels as well, sitting in sixth place after two Rodeos with eight left to go in the season.

For the Men’s Team, in Team Roping we have a pair of Eagles Ranked in the region standings. Brennen Wilson and Hayden Sanders sit in fourth place while Parker Jones (Solvang, CA) and Coy Evans (Fort Supply, OK) are in twelfth position after two Rodeos.

Evans joins fellow Eagle Tie Down Ropers Howard Green (Atlanta, TX) and Brennen Wilson ranked, Evans is second, with Green in fourth followed immediately by Wilson in fifth position.

In Saddle Bronc, Schweer sits in seventh position early in the season.

NTCC will host the third NIRA Southern Region Rodeo of the Year October 20-21 at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Association Arena in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Slack events will start at 9:00am Friday and Saturday with nightly start times of 7:00pm for the Rodeo.
