Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Mu Chi, attended the Texas Regional Convention in Frisco on March 10-12 and returned with several awards. In addition, the chapter successfully campaigned for the Texas Region President position. The elected representative, Jordan Chapin, will take part in leadership training, public speaking opportunities, and travel throughout the state.
Alpha Mu Chi maintained their five-star status and was recognized as a Texas Top chapter, which is given to the top 18 chapters in the Texas region that have participated in both the Honors in Action and College Project. Alpha Mu Chi earned the Honors in Action Award of Merit for Theme 7: Life and Death and the College Project Award of Merit. In addition, the chapter received an award for Continued Excellence, which is given to chapters that are recognized as Top Chapters for three consecutive years.
"TRC was so cool to see in person. I had heard many things about what these conferences look like but to experience it is completely different! I loved being able to meet new people and be a part of new experiences," said Jordan Chapin, chapter officer.
The chapter officer team, including Cade Bennett, Jordan Chapin, Brooke Clifton, Victor Diaz, Maiko Estrada, Skylar Fondren, Fatima Fuentes, Paisley McGee, Jessie Parchman, Israel Perez, Brian Ramirez, Maxime Risner, John Rodriguez, and Davin Whatley was named a Distinguished Officer Team. The members of this officer team have demonstrated an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership abilities, promotion of Honors in Action and other engagement within Phi Theta Kappa. Brian Ramirez and Jordan Chapin were awarded medals for Distinguished Chapter Officers.

Dr. Melissa Fulgham received a Horizon Award, which is given to experienced advisors who have attained new levels of achievement in Phi Theta Kappa programs and are presented based on the recommendation from an advisor’s District or Regional Coordinator.
“I’m humbled to have received this award for the fourth time," said Dr. Melissa Fulgham.
The awards received by the chapter include: District III Regional President position, Texas Top Chapter, Continued Excellence Award, Honors in Action Award of Merit Theme 7, College Project Award of Merit, Five Star Chapter, Honors in Action and College Project participation award, Distinguished Officer Team (Cade Bennett, Jordan Chapin, Brooke Clifton, Victor Diaz, Maiko Estrada, Skylar Fondren, Fatima Fuentes, Paisley McGee, Jessie Parchman, Israel Perez, Brian Ramirez, Maxime Risner, John Rodriguez, and Davin Whatley), Texas Regional Hall of Honor for Outstanding Officers (Brian Ramirez and Jordan Chapin), Horizon Award (Dr. Melissa Fulgham), District III Hall of Honor (Cade Bennett, Jordan Chapin, Skylar Fondren, Fatima Fuentes, Jessie Parchman, Israel Perez, Brian Ramirez, Maxime Risner, John Rodriguez, and Davin Whatley).
“With the chapter coming away with a total of 34 awards, counting the various medals, certificates, and plaques awarded, Alpha Mu Chi set a new chapter record. I’m glad to see the chapter in such a strong position, especially as Dr. Matthew Lampert is moving into the Lead Advisor position this coming year,” said Dr. Fulgham.
With over 1,300 chapters located in the United States and ten other nations, Phi Theta Kappa is a selective, international honor society founded in 1918 that recognizes academic achievement of two-year college students and provides opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.
