Former Lieutenant Governor Bill Ratliff was honored last week at the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and Universities (NetNet) summer conference held on the Northeast Texas Community College Campus. Ratliff was recognized for being a driving catalyst in the formation of the consortium in the 1990s while serving on the Texas Legislature. NetNet is the collaborative effort of 13 higher education institutions to bring state-of-the-art technology and a wide range of instruction to 50 rural Northeast Texas counties. Around 100 faculty and staff members from those institutions gathered at NTCC for the two-day professional development conference. Numerous NTCC faculty and staff were involved in the conference. Jackie Johnston and Doug Richey presented a three-hour pre-conference workshop.†Debbie Strong, Chuck Hamilton, Mandy Smith, Miles Young, Jill Dietze, and Mary Lou Pemberton, along with others from different colleges and universities, presented breakout sessions on different aspects of teaching at a distance.†Keynote Speakers included Marci Powell, Chair Emerita of the US Distance Learning Association and Fred Lokken from Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada
