Baseball splits doubleheader with Hutchinson

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Baseball team split a double header with Hutchinson on Thursday. The Eagles won game one 7-1 and dropped the second game 9-7.

In the opener, the eagles had a big third inning which propelled them to the win. Taylor Barber,†Manny Garcia, and†Matt Scheurich†all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

The Eagles actually got things started in the first inning when†Garcia†doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Then in the third they†notched five more runs, including home runs by†Barber,†Garcia, and†Scheurich.

Chandler Dean†led things off on the rubber for†the Eagles. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out four.† The Eagles†racked up nine hits.†John Russ,†Garcia, and†Andrew Skivington†each collected multiple hits for†NTCC.†The defense played sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.†Jhosmel Rodriguez†made the most plays with seven.

Thursday's second game against Hutchinson was a heartbreaker for†the Eagles, as they lost the lead late in a 9-7 defeat. The game was tied at seven with Hutchinson batting in the top of the tenth when†#26†homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.† Despite the loss,†the Eagles did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hutchinson had 12 hits on the way to victory.

NTCC scored five runs in the sixth inning. The rally was led by doubles by†Jordan Martinez,†Jhosmel Rodriguez, and†Taylor Barber†and a home run by†Emmanuell Garcia.† Max Martinez†took the loss for†the Eagles. He pitched one inning, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two and walking zero.

NTCC hit two home runs in the game.†Kyle Moos went deep in the first inning.†Garcia†had a four bagger in the sixth inning.† The Eagles tallied 12 hits in the game.†Martinez,†Barber,†Scheurich,†Russ, and†Moos†each collected two hits to lead†Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Varsity.

The Eagles? next home game will be February 20 against TCS Post Grad at 6 p.m.
