The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host its first exhibit of the 2017-2018 school year September 5-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The show, ?Art from the Heart?, will feature graphite artwork by Maurya Beth Holland. A reception with the artist will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer. Refreshments will be served.
Holland enjoys working with all mediums, but is especially fond of graphite because of the way she can work with the different shades of the pencils.
?Even though the graphite is basically one shade, I feel as though the pencils reveal different colors as I create.†I try to make my drawings consists of††?down to nature?, ?back to the basics? style of natural events that everyone is used to seeing as they go through life,? Holland said.
Growing up on a ranch in west Texas, the love of outdoors, and family†has had a large influence on the foundation of her work.
The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Please call 903-434-8181 before visiting to ensure that the gallery is open for viewing.
