The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department is hosting Diversity in Clay, a pottery and sculpture exhibit by Llwanda Golden through October 26 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

"Llwanda is a prolific artist with a high level of sophistication and detail. From her whimsical teapots to lifelike human busts, each piece is unique and special," Debbie Strong, NTCC Instructor of Art, said. "I hope members of the community will come out to enjoy the beautiful exhibit of pottery and sculpture."

A reception with the artist is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Whatley foyer. The exhibit is open to the public for viewing Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon or by appointment. Please call 903-434-8181 to ensure the gallery will be open for viewing when you wish to come.

Golden developed a love of art at an early age and began to study painting in her early 20s. She began sculpting after touring France and Italy with her husband about 30 years ago and viewing the beautiful sculptures of Europe.

"This encounter with sculpture sent me on a journey of discovery and learning that has not stopped as of yet," Golden said. c

Golden has studied art under many instructors, including those at NTCC, Paris Junior College and Texas A&M University-Commerce. Her work has been displayed in galleries throughout the region and she was chosen to participate in the 2015 Cameo Emerging Artist show in Baytown.
