Nayeli Fuentes,†Junior Class President of Mount Pleasant High School,† and†Elizabeth Griffin, a presence recently in the local theatre scene, were recognized in a luncheon at Northeast Texas Community College March 4 as regional high school standouts.

"It was inspiriting to have two students together who have done so much to raise the bar on excellence in Northeast Texas,"†Dr. Andrew Yox, NTCC Honors Director, said.

Fuentes†has been the top student of her class of 400 at Mount Pleasant High School for some time.† She is a Sargent in the Tiger Dolls, a member of UIL math, a member of the student council, and as many juniors can attest, a lodestone for achievement in the class.

Griffin,†while a homeschooled junior, won the President?s Academic Excellence Award and the Horizon Award at NTCC.† As a senior she has appeared in†Once Upon a Wolf,†and recently, in a major role as Annelle in†Steel Magnolias--productions of Theatre Northeast.

Presidential Scholar and President of the Honors Student Council, Tyler Reynolds of Pittsburg, congratulated both recipients, as did Professor Shirley Clay of NTCC.† Both received gifts.

Nayeli is the daughter of Jose and Angelica Fuentes of Mount Pleasant.† Elizabeth is the daughter of Dr. Steven and Joy Griffin of Pittsburg.
