Theatre Northeast will present†The Odd Couple†(female version), Neil Simon?s 1985 adaptation of his Tony Award-winning Broadway comedy, at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts October 31 through November 3. Evening performances will be held at 7:30 on Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 and there will be a 2:05 p.m. Matinee on Nov. 3. The Whatley Center is located on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College.
The Odd Couple†(female version) follows fun-loving and messy Olive Madison and neurotic neat freak Florence Unger, who come to live together after their respective marriages fail. Joined by their group of witty Trivial Pursuit playing friends and a pair of suave Spanish neighbors, the best friends soon realize that they make the worst of roommates.† After only three weeks, they have driven each other crazy, disagreeing about responsibility, cleanliness, personal space and everything in between. Olive and Florence attempt to reconcile each other?s idiosyncrasies while rekindling their respective social lives, with side-splitting results.
"This really is a very funny play and we have a dream cast.† Everyone in the† play is an amazing actor," Douglas Hoppock, Theatre Northeast Director, said.
The Odd Couple†(female version) is a hilarious adaptation of Simon?s original hit 1965 Tony Award-winning play, which was made into an Academy Award nominated film and Emmy Award-winning TV series. The female version of the production originally premiered on Broadway in 1986 starringSally Struthers and Rita Moreno.
The NTCC cast includes Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumna, Angela Chambers and Lauren Shortnacy, of Mount Pleasant, as Florence and Olive. Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumnus Jordan Chambers and John Chambers, of Mount Pleasant, play Manolo and Jesus. Haley Guest, of Daingerfield, plays Mickey; Kathryn Comer and Marcy Logan, of Omaha, play Renee and Sylvie. Ariah Burkhalter, of Mount Pleasant, plays Vera. The production is directed by NTCC Professor of Theatre Douglas Hoppock. The Assistant Director is Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumnus Eric Staples, of Mount Pleasant, and the Stage Manager is Corin Carter, of Gilmer.
Tickets are $10 for Adults $7 for 17 and under $5 for NTCC Faculty, Staff and Sr. Citizens. NTCC students are free with a current ID. Due to limited seating, reservations are required by calling the Whatley Box Office 903-434-8181.††The Odd Couple†(female version) contains mature subject matter.
