† † †Theatre Northeast, the student theatre group of Northeast Texas Community College, is set to open the acclaimed award-winning romantic comedy†Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, July 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. and July 15 at 2:05 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.††Sylvia is a witty and intelligent comedy about a man, a woman and a lovable pooch, who threatens to put their marriage in the doghouse!

† † †The play follows Greg and Kate, two recent empty-nesters, through a mid-life crisis of sorts.††After years of blissful suburban life, they move to Manhattan as Kate?s career picks up and as Greg?s begins to wind down.††Things get interesting when Greg brings home an adorable ?mutt? from the park named Sylvia. She quickly becomes the object of his misplaced affection, and a definite ?bone? of contention between Greg and his wife Kate.

† † †"The play examines marriage, aging and the complexities of human nature through the eyes of a dog.††Not only is it a terribly funny play, but it sneaks up on you as a beautifully written romantic comedy," Douglas Hoppock, Director and NTCC Professor of Theatre and Speech, said.† † †Sylvia brings together real-life husband and wife actors, Brittany Derby as Sylvia and Nick Derby (Mount Pleasant) as Gregg.††Other members of the cast are Samantha Johnson (Daingerfield) as Kate, Tyler Beadle (Mount Pleasant) as Tom, Cory Myers (Paris) as Leslie, Mollie Blair (Winnsboro) as Phyllis, Amanda Renfroe (Gilmer) as The Bag Lady and Scott Edwards (Mount Vernon) as The Bum.††Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumnus Jeffrey Stirl from Daingerfield will play incidental music.††The production is directed and designed by Douglas Hoppock.

Ticket prices are $7 for Adults, $5 for 17 and under, $3 for Senior Citizens and NTCC Faculty and Staff.††There is no charge for NTCC students with a current ID.††Due to limited seating in the Studio Theatre, reservations are requested by calling the Whatley Box Office at 903-434-8181.††Reservations may also be made by emailing ticket requests to†dhoppock@ntcc.edu.
