WELCOME
The accredited Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Emergency Medical Services Programs (EMT-Basic, Paramedic, and A.A.S. Degree in EMS) are designed to prepare students for a career primarily in pre-hospital emergency medicine or an ancillary area of EMS employment. It should be understood that the EMS programs do not certify the student as an EMS provider. However, the EMS Program will provide substantially all the required coursework, laboratory, and clinical training for the student’s preparation to sit for the National Registry certification exams for whichever level of EMS training the student may successfully pass. The EMS programs here are approved and accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), the National Registry (NAEMT), the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), and Commission of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
The Emergency Medical Services programs involve challenging college level course work, the mastery of critical psychomotor clinical skills, decisive and consistent training in professional behaviors, chronic emphasis of the development of relationships with peers and patients, and the ardent focus of ethics and morals, as well as strenuous promotion of personal responsibility. The skills that will be developed while in attendance will greatly assist the student in assuming the role as a basic or advanced healthcare provider and as a direct extension of a medical physician through a comprehensive program consisting of theory, skills laboratory, and hospital and field experience.
In the Emergency Medical Services programs, you will participate in the decision-making process of patient care to an extent shared by few other healthcare professionals. We design these courses to maximize the learning opportunities and teach the necessary responsibilities. Thus the classroom, lab, and clinical grading as well as the course completion criteria for certification within this program are measurably and appropriately high. The programs are designed to measure not only the cognitive (academic knowledge) and psychomotor (skills) portion of the profession, but the affective (professional behaviors) domain as well. We pride ourselves in this program in teaching future allied healthcare professionals not only what they need to know to perform the job……..but what they need to know in how to survive in the job.
