At Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas (CIS), the safety and well-being of our area’s most vulnerable students is crucial. While many businesses, schools and organizations must remain closed, CIS will continue services for almost 4,000 students in the northeast Texas area. In collaboration with school districts, community partners and service providers, CIS has been working diligently to adapt to this ever-changing situation, and stand ready to do everything in our power to support our students and families and connect them to the resources and services they need.

COVID 19 is having a profound impact on our CIS families. Here are a few of the many ways we are helping students and families during this crisis:

  • Communicating with students and parents to assess the needs and provide support
  • Helping with academics, assistance, and social emotional wellness
  • Providing resource and referral services to connect and empower families to navigate the various academic, health, and other relevant community resources
  • Collecting and distributing meals for families living with food insecurity
  • Delivering food to families who don’t have a way to pick it up at their school
  • Providing emergency assistance for families impacted by loss of employment, additional childcare costs, and other related factors
  • Helping students get the medical treatment and prescriptions they need to stay healthy
