Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to announce that Neida Perez was selected for two prestigious honors at the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC) annual convention in Louisville, KY earlier this month. She was one of just 20 college students named to the prestigious 2024 All-USA Academic Team and she was also named a 2024 New Century Transfer Scholar. Perez was selected from more than 2,200 nominees to receive the $5,000 All-USA Academic Team Prize and the $2,250 New Century Transfer Scholarship. She was one of just a few students nationwide that were honored with both awards.

Perez is a Presidential Scholar at NTCC who is also active in the Psi Beta honor society, TAFE and Phi Theta Kappa. She has presented research at multiple academic conferences and has won a variety of other awards and scholarships. Perez is also a semifinalist for the prestigious 2024 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

“These are honors that very few students receive and even fewer earned both accolades. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to be on stage with Neida when she received her awards at this year’s AACC conference. We are so proud of her accomplishments and know that she has a great future ahead of her,” Dr. Ron Clinton, NTCC President, said.

The All-USA program is among the nation’s premier academic honors for students pursuing an associate degree. Each institution may nominate two students who have shown outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and citizenship. The program, sponsored by education technology provider Cengage in collaboration with Phi Theta Kappa, also honors students who leverage their community college experience to better themselves, improve their schools and impact their communities. New Century Transfer Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

“We congratulate Perez for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored to partner with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and the AACC to recognize these outstanding achievements,” said Phi Theta Kappa’s President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “Scholarship programs like this are integral for creating opportunities for two-year college students to succeed and for putting college completion within reach.” To learn more about the All-USA Academic Team Scholarship Program or the New Century Transfer Scholars Program, please visit the Phi Theta Kappa website.
